Torch to South Wraxall

Last Friday a ‘madison’ cycling team set off to try and catch the John Potter party… who had jumped the gun by 10 minutes! They rode hard in ‘hot’ pursuit but could not overcome a highly trained British team, encouraged by much ‘carbo-loading’. Perhaps the burden of carrying an Olympic torch was too great a handicap. Finish line was Team GB Velodrome – AKA the Long’s Arms, South Wraxall. The main aim, to relay the Olympic flame from Bradford on Avon. A hesitant moment came when the mayor was called forward to light the flame – 3 stood up! Such is the problem with so many ex-mayors around that evening. The arena was packed and much cheering made when the beacon lit up. A fun night followed in the pub’s skittle alley. Thanks to all at the Longs Arms for their hospitality, worth the short ride up from Bradford on Avon.
